Solar PV Estimator – Overview 

Low Carbon Recruitment Ltd are currently working with one of the largest Solar PV installation companies who are seeking a permanent Solar PV Estimator to be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for solar PV installations, working closely with sales, design, and project management teams to ensure projects are completed within budget and on schedule.
The company has been established for over 20 years and work mainly in the Southeast, Southwest and the Midlands.
 
Key Responsibilities:

•    Prepare comprehensive cost estimates for both residential and commercial solar PV installations, including materials, labour, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
•    Analyse technical drawings, site surveys, and client requirements to determine project scope and feasibility.
•    Collaborate with the sales and technical teams to develop tailored solutions that align with client needs and budgets.
•    Source and negotiate pricing with suppliers, ensuring cost-effectiveness and quality standards.
•    Stay updated with industry trends, regulations, and technologies to optimise estimations and proposals.
•    Prepare and present detailed proposals and tender submissions, ensuring clarity and precision.
•    Conduct post-estimation reviews to refine and improve future estimation accuracy.
•    Maintain thorough records of estimates, proposals, and project costs for reference and analysis.

Requirements

•    Previous experience as an estimator in the solar PV, electrical, or construction industry.
•    Strong knowledge of solar PV system components, installation techniques, and industry standards.
•    Proficiency in estimating software, spreadsheets, and CRM tools.
•    Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
•    Strong attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines.
•    Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
•    Good communication and negotiation skills.
•    Understanding of relevant UK regulations and incentive schemes (e.g., MCS, G98/G99, VAT rules on solar).

Preferred Qualifications

•    HND/Degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or related field (preferred but not essential)
•    Experience with PV design software such as PV*SOL and AutoCAD.
•    Familiarity with net metering, battery storage, and grid connection requirements.
